Hurry Up and Be Creative
I just read this great article about being a “fast food designer.” You may or may not have ever had a job like this, but I certainly have, and my senior designer at Kelsey Advertising & Design had one too. A “fast food designer” is when management comes in and wants a brochure done in an hour, or a logo in an afternoon.
Now that I have had the pleasure of being the boss for a while now, I don’t get to design much at all. Sometimes that’s a good thing (like when I’m feeling lazy), but sometimes I wonder if I have lost touch with where I came from.
This article reminded me to take a step back and remember to, as the author put it, “let it incubate” a little. I think I do a pretty good job with allowing it to incubate with my designers (for the most part), but it’s a good reminder.
“Potato portraits” from artist Ginou Choueiri. I think there is opportunity for some kind of commercial here. Hell, if Geico can put eyeballs on a stack of cash, why not mugs on spuds?
